MECA is pleased to present Retablos31 - an annual silent auction fundraiser and exhibition of retablos celebrating the tradition of devotional painting, organized in collaboration with Lawndale Art Center. For this exhibition MECA invites artists from the Houston community to create original works of art following the tradition of devotional retablo making.

The theme of Retablos31 is promesas cumplidas (promises kept); promesas pedidas (promises made); devotional to a loved one (devocional a un ser amado), saint (a un santo), higher power (a un poder superior); and healing (sanación).
MECA will distribute 200 tins on a first-come, first-serve basis - one tin per artist. Participating artists MUST be present to pick up tin material in person.
Silent auction bidding of the completed retablos begins at the artist’s designated minimum starting bid. $150 is the maximum starting bid. Bidding on each item will increase by minimum increments of $25.
Participating artists will be offered 50% of the proceeds from the sale of their retablo in the Silent Auction, which will take place on Friday, November 2nd — Dia de los Muertos — and will receive a complimentary ticket to the event.
Participating artists receive tin material distributed by MECA to start with and agree to observe the established theme with the following restrictions:
MECA will not display artwork which does not met all stated conditions or lacks sufficient structural integrity for exhibition and sale.
