Mariachi
Mariachi is a genre of ensemble music originating in Mexico; a typical ensemble consists of violins, trumpet, guitar, vihuela, and guitarron.
Mexican Ballet Folklórico
Mexican Ballet Folklórico is a traditional art form that combines elements of classical ballet and folk dancing. These colorful dances are frequently performed at celebrations and festivals. Choreography, costumes and accompanying music vary by geographic region, and may depict local animals, attire and folklore.
Accordion
The accordion is a traditional instrument featured in numerous musical genres, including folk, pop, classical and tejano music.
Classical Ballet
Classical Ballet is a concert dance form featuring formal techniques, methods and training and primarily accompanied by classical music; ballet techniques frequently serve as a foundation for other dance forms.
Piano
Piano is featured in solo repertoire, chamber music, ensemble performances and for accompaniment.
Flute
The flute is a reedless wind instrument frequently featured in classical and jazz music.
African Drumming
African Drumming features distinctive percussion instruments from this part of the world. The music style utilizes rhythms associated with certain dances, celebrations, daily chores and communication, and is a vibrant form of cultural expression.
Violin – Suzuki Method
Suzuki violin is a method of learning music that is based on aural learning techniques utilizing Suzuki-specific workbooks. Beginner students learn music through ear training and move on to sight-reading as they progress in ability.
Violin Technique
This class provides in-depth instruction for intermediate and advanced students. Students will further develop proper posture, hand position, bow technique, pitch, vibrato, double stops and harmonics.
Classical Guitar
Classical Guitar is a genre of music featuring distinctive techniques such as complex right-hand work and plucking.
Hip-Hop Dance
Hip-Hop Dance is an American art form typically performed to hip-hop music and improvisational or “free-style” in nature; the dance includes a diversity of styles, such as break-dancing, locking and popping.
Tutoring
Students may receive academic assistance a number of academic subjects.
Voice and Voice Ensemble
Voice and Voice Ensemble will explore vocal techniques and repertoire, and will include music reading and seasonal programming.
Mosaic Art
Mosaic art is a fun, hands-on genre of art using stained glass pieces and found objects to create both abstract and distinct images.
Visual Art
Visual Art encompasses a diversity of techniques and mediums such as drawing, painting and sculpture to promote creative expression.
Jazz Improvisation
Creative music is an ideal context to address group awareness, self-awareness, empowerment, vulnerability, and diversity. Vocal Technique with Gabriel Gonzalez
This special class with Gabriel Gonzalez, internationally renowned operatic tenor, helps students grow beyond proficient singers into exceptional artists. Students will develop proper vocal technique and a unique interpretation of repertoire. Available for advanced level students only.
Creative Writing
MECA offers workshops and summer classes that explore the literary arts, including creative writing, spoken word and poetry. Through these activities, students develop the communication skills that are critical to future academic and professional success.

Theatre
MECA collaborates with other arts organizations to provide theater workshops and summer classes. These experiences allow students to work out complex emotional issues drawn from their personal experiences. Furthermore, students gain a voice through their performances, and are able to communicate their perspectives to their family members through performances. In addition, the MECA community has opportunities to perform in seasonal plays.
