For nearly five decades, this nonprofit arts organization has become a vital cultural treasure for underserved and underrepresented communities in Houston, Texas. MECA enriches its community through creativity and the transformative power of the arts. Grounded in four core pillars—arts education, social support services, academic support services, and a performing and visual arts series—it offers a dynamic platform for emerging and established artists while providing holistic support for individuals and families. Through low to no-cost year-round programming, including exhibitions, performances, workshops, and partnerships, the organization fosters artistic talent, promotes educational growth, and strengthens community well-being and cultural connection. Working out of and rehabilitating its headquarters in the heart of Houston’s Old Sixth Ward at the Historic Dow School, the organization is also addressing the importance of historic preservation.
MissionMECA is committed to the healthy development of under-served & underrepresented families through arts and cultural programming, the promotion of academic excellence, support services, and community building.
